Pearland police report city's Flock database was searched more than 903,000 times in one month

Pearland, Texas police released data to city council members showing the city's Flock Safety database was searched more than 903,000 times between August 10 and September 10. The disclosure follows questions from council members about how the license plate reader system is used and who can access it. A similar finding in Lucas County, Ohio earlier in 2026 — roughly 904,000 searches in a single month — was attributed by the Harris County Sheriff's Office to Flock's nationwide search feature, which lets participating agencies query the databases of other opted-in agencies.

Why this matters

Search-volume audits are one of the few tools local officials have to see how widely their community's ALPR data travels, and Pearland's numbers are surfacing as neighboring Texas cities take divergent paths on whether to keep the cameras at all.
