Palm Desert man arrested in alleged attack on Flock camera contractor released on bail; no charges filed yet

Nathan Daniel Ceballos of Palm Desert was arrested Aug. 24 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and multiple felony vandalism counts after the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said a man slashed the tires of a Flock Safety contractor's vehicle, damaged a newly installed license plate reader and threatened to stab the worker on Fred Waring Drive. The contractor had been replacing a camera that investigators said was previously vandalized. Ceballos posted bail and was released, and the sheriff's office said the case was submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office on Thursday for a filing decision. He has not been charged; jail records list an Oct. 9 court date.

Why this matters

The case illustrates how disputes over ALPR deployments can escalate into criminal investigations, and how agencies publicly frame camera tampering as a felony matter, while the ordinary presumption of innocence and prosecutorial discretion still apply.
