Second Lufkin officer cleared by Texas Rangers in Flock ALPR misuse investigation

The Lufkin Police Department says a second officer suspended over questions about his use of the agency's Flock automated license plate reader system has been cleared by the Texas Rangers. Police Chief Travis Brazil said an internal audit initially flagged some of the officer's searches as suspicious, but a full review concluded the queries were made for legitimate purposes, and the officer has returned to duty. The department told KTRE that a separate case involving former officer Zachary Anthony Klein has not been resolved. Lufkin's temporary suspension of its Flock cameras remains in place.

Why this matters

The case shows how audit logs of license plate reader searches can trigger outside review of individual officers, and how outcomes can differ across personnel in the same agency. It also leaves open questions about when Lufkin will resume use of the cameras and what oversight will accompany that decision.
