Hall County investigator fired after internal audit found unauthorized Flock searches

The Hall County Sheriff's Office fired investigator Justin Brown on the evening of Aug. 19 after an internal investigation concluded he used the agency's Flock license plate reader system for searches with no legitimate law enforcement purpose. The agency said a self-initiated audit of its Flock activity flagged unauthorized searches involving at least two license plate numbers. HCSO referred the matter to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for a criminal investigation; no charges had been announced as of the agency's release.

Why this matters

The case illustrates that ALPR misuse is often detected only through internal audits, and raises questions about how routinely agencies review search logs and what accountability follows when they do.
