Clearwater County prosecutor says Flock Safety contract is void under Idaho law

After the Clearwater County, Idaho Sheriff's Office announced in July that it would not renew its Flock Safety contract, the office said Flock disputed whether the two-year agreement could be canceled after one year. County Prosecuting Attorney E. Clayne Tyler issued a legal opinion that the agreement is void and unenforceable as to the second year, citing state law on automatic contract extensions and arguing that only the Board of County Commissioners can bind the county to debt. The sheriff's office said the prosecutor is prepared to defend that position in court; the office's update did not include a further response from Flock.

Why this matters

The dispute tests who has legal authority to commit a county to multi-year surveillance contracts, and whether standard vendor renewal terms hold up against state procurement law — questions other local governments reconsidering ALPR deployments may face.
