Albany County sheriff's investigator charged with misusing Flock license plate data

Senior investigator Laurie Moore, 47, of the Albany County Sheriff's Office was charged with official misconduct and falsifying business records after the agency said she accessed Flock license plate reader data and other law enforcement systems to look up five people she knew. The Sheriff's Office said the searches were not tied to any investigation or authorized purpose. Moore, a 13-year employee, has been suspended pending administrative action and was due in New Scotland Town Court on Sept. 24. The charges are allegations that have not been resolved in court.

Why this matters

The case is an example of an agency detecting and charging alleged personal misuse of ALPR data, and of a sheriff responding by restricting deputies' direct access to the system — a change other departments weighing audit and access controls may look to.
